Dating abuse and violence happen in adolescent and teen relationships and can often go unnoticed and undetected. Everyone deserves to be in a healthy relationship.
If you’re in an unhealthy or abusive relationship, figuring out what to do next can be confusing. Find a trusted adult to talk with, or call the victim services helpline at 814.944.3585 to speak confidentially with an advocate.
Dating Abuse Can Look Like:
- Physical Abuse: Hitting, punching, kicking, pinching, strangling, using a weapon.
- Verbal or Emotional Abuse: Name-calling, insults, jokes about you, humiliation, intimidation, stalking, isolating.
- Sexual Abuse: Rape, harassment, coercion for sex or sexual favors, sending unsolicited nude pictures, demanding nude pictures, threatening to expose nude pictures, restricting access to birth control, unwanted sexual acts during sex.
It Can Also Include:
- Checking your cell phone or social media without your permission.
- Consistently putting you down or calling you names.
- Extreme jealousy.
- Explosive temper.
- Isolating you/keeping you away from friends and family.
- Making false accusations.
- Mood swings.
- Possessiveness.
- Telling you what to do.
