Our DSPs are a crucial part of making our program work and our individuals live a successful, fulfilled life. While we appreciate them every day, we especially take the time to recognize them during DSP Appreciation Week. This takes place the second week of September.
Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) create opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities receiving services from Family Services Incorporated to have “Everday Lives” providing supportive supervision and assistance that ensures the health and safety of people while encouraging and accommodating all serviced to achieve their social, emotional, physical, and economic needs. The DSPs at Family Services Incorporated work in community residential homes.
Responsibilities:
- Assist our individuals to live in integrated settings and develop positive social connections
- Demonstrates the awareness, attitude knowledge, and skills required to provide support to persons with intellectual disabilities and autism
- Maintains a clean and safe living environment with housekeeping, laundry, vacuuming, bathroom sanitation, snow shoveling, and gardening
- Ensure timely administration of medications
- Provides personal care including, but not limited to bathing, dressing, and grooming
- Schedules all healthcare appointments, advocates for the individual during medical appointments, and follows doctor’s orders
- Provides transportation with company vehicles to medical appointments, social events, and other desired activities
