How Can I Help?

Being a teen is difficult to begin with – it’s even more of a challenge for students who are facing homelessness.

Youth homelessness is a complex issue affecting thousands of teens who may find themselves without a safe place to call home. Many youths experience homelessness due to family conflict, economic hardship, or situations beyond their control. Living without stable housing can impact their education, mental and physical health, and future opportunities.

The Teen Shelter provides an emergency shelter for teens, ages 12-17, for up to 21 days. These young people could be:

  • A Runaway: Absent from home without permission of parent(s) or legal guardian(s).
  • Homeless: Have no shelter or need the services of a shelter for supervision or care.
  • A Push Out: Forced out of the home by parent(s) or guardian(s) resulting in homelessness.
  • In need of Crisis Intervention: A cooling-off period outside the home.

The shelter provides essentials such as food and clothing, as well as services such as:

  • Educational support
  • Crisis intervention
  • Supportive counseling
  • Family reunification
  • Preparation for independent living
  • Runaway and homeless prevention activities
  • Referrals to local resources (mental and physical health)
