Legal
Advocates Who Staff the Protection from Abuse Order Office
The
PFA Office provides information about legal options, assistance
in filing Protection from Abuse Orders and accompaniment to court
hearings. The PFA Office is a satellite office of Family Services.
It is staffed by legal advocates* and interns who work closely with
attorneys, assistant district attorneys, judges, district justices,
and police officers to achieve the best outcome for each situation.
A
legal advocate can provide information about legal options, court
procedures and safety planning. An advocate can assist with filling
out PFA forms and filing them with the court. Upon advance request
and if available, a legal advocate can accompany victims of domestic
violence to civil and criminal court hearings (whether at the Blair
County Court House or at a District Justice Office).
*A
legal advocate is not an attorney and cannot give legal advice.
