David has lived with Diana and Tom Stamford for nearly five years. David enjoys sports of all kinds. He especially likes the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. He plays baseball in the Miracle League. David also loves ice cream and cheeseburgers. After returning home from his day program each day, he likes to change his clothes and drink a cup of coffee.
Lifesharing through the Family Living Program means living with and sharing life experiences with supportive persons who form a caring household. Lifesharing is recognized as having both a close personal relationship and a place to live. Lifesharing offers an individual with a disability the opportunity to live with a family or individual who will support his/her desires and needs for an everyday life.
David, Diana and Tom are a family. David likes spending time together as a family going camping and cooking out in the summer months.
FAMILY LIVING PROGRAM These licensed programs provide one or two people the opportunity to live with a host family in a private home. There are many kinds of host families, including single persons, single parents, two parent families, and multigenerational families. The host family provides food, shelter, and personal care while supporting the individual to become a family member. The individual and his or her host family receive continuous assistance from Family Services in areas such as life sharing, being a family member, personal growth, and community integration.
COMMUNITY RESIDENTIAL FACILITIES Our licensed homes provide 24-hour supervision for up to three people per home in the community. Individual supports for those individuals 18 years of age or older are developed through an Individual Support Plan.
RESPITE CARE PROGRAM Family Services operates a licensed Respite Care Program for children and adults with disabilities. This program is designed to give families a break from caring for a person with a disability. Employees of Family Services are specially trained to provide routine care and to deliver this temporary residential care in a homelike setting.
ALTERNATIVE DAY PROGRAM This licensed program gives adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities the opportunity to enhance their everyday skills, learn to socialize and participate in the community. This service is available from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. weekdays. The goal of this program is to build quality of life though social and adaptive skills.
HOME AND COMMUNITY HABILITATION This service helps people gain, maintain and improve skills that support them to live and participate in their local community. Examples include assisting someone to participate in a church activity, learning to cook safely or to utilize public transportation.
